Which rules does a design fiction follow?
Are there any rules at all if we think of a utopian world?

1. What is the basic rule of fiction?
2. What is the manifestation of critique?
3. What are the design aims?
4. How is the design fiction materialized, visualized and prototyped?
5. What is the aesthetics of the design fiction?

After, another lecture by Next Nature with enphasys to the project "NANOSUPERMARKET" and "The Rise and Fall of the Rayfish Footware" that showed us how speculative produtcs can more effecticly start a discussion about the future.

Lecture by Nickel van Duijvenboden.
We analysed his book on "written photography" and read some texts of books
like the "Medium is the Massage" by Marshall Mc Luhan and view excerpts of the moovie Fahrenheit 451.
We started defining the project - searching for the past to define the future - and in that way start searching on topics we thought interesting:

The history of seach engines, social networks and video chatting.
Latter, we added the imagetic History of Hardware (computers).
Ana, Lisa, Brooke and Claire form a group.
project & tools
schedule
We started to defining our new tools necessary for our new world where capitalism is no longer a reality, where being green is an everyday habit an where there is a new human species, with new body features and proportions. These new tools help these new human cope with the absence of written language and new ways of communicating. We designed the tools and decided their functions.
monday, 1 december
We made drawings of the tools and thought about materials and other problems. Download pdf to access all the scketches.
pdf
monday, 9 december
We improved the drawings during this week, and made choices in order to define the final prototypes.
pdf
friday, 13 december
We bought fimo material to bring the drawings to real prototype objects but the final result did not look good.We started to thinking about 3D printing our tools.
wednesday, 18 december
We presented our project to teachers and students.
thursday, 20 december
pdf
We decided to work only on the communication tools, artists tools and the jump suit. We also decided to use the 3D printer plus, we watched tutorials to learn blender and started to make the patterns for the jumpsuit.
Christmas break
We continued to learn blender and started making several tools in blender and maya.
tuesday, 7 january
We continued to create tools on 3D, took an appointment for the 3D printer and made a schedule to plan all our tasks until the presentation.
wednesday, 8 january
We finished the tools and started writing the story about them. We also thought about how we should exhibit the tools and decided to call the new institute to ask for material. We decided to make an identity for the project with labels, a brochure for the exhibition, a poster...the name of our museum identity is the same as for our project: "FutuRelics".
thursday, 9 january
We started to print tools and booked the photo studio for friday, to take pictures of them. We finished to created the identity, labels, and started to design the booklet. We also continued to write and improve the story for the audio guide. Moreover we were looking for videos to be inspired for our scenography.
friday, 10 january
We thought about our future and how far we wanted to be for our project. We started thinking about 10 000 years from now. We defined our world, how it would be, and we read lots of articles about the new technologies, the human body and how these two interact.
We started imagining the final form of our project.
We now have lots of research and we think of several scenarios for the future. So we decide to make an exhibition of "relics" of the future, so the public can be taken to this future the same relics take us to the past making us imagine parts of that past with those bits of information. Also, the background of the tools will be complemented with an audio guide.
monday, 3 december
monday, 6 december
We continued printing the tools and took pictures of the finished 3D-objects in the photo studio. We also booked the studio again on monday. Furthermore we decided to print the tools again in a higher quality and send them to print. We also made an appoitment in the audio studio to record the texts for the audio guide.
saturday, 11 january
We started thinking of how we would present the tools in the exhibiton. We made a drawing of the glass box in which all the tools would be shown and took measurements of it. So that the visitor can connect the texts to the specific tool, we will put small stickers inside the box next to each object. These stickers will refer to our corporate design.
We continued updating the Hotglue-website, working on the jumpsuit and writing the texts and project description.
We added the measurements of the future human to the jumpsuit and also bought the final fabric.
audioguide
sunday, 12 january
We finished the texts for the audio-guide and for the 15th January presentation to be evaluated in Text class, by Bart.
Also, the jumpsuit's prototype was almost done.
We created a ruller to show the scale of each tool in proportion to one another.
We edited the what-if hotglue an created a new one for the audioguide.
We picked up the tools that got left printing in the printshop and photographed them. We treated the photos and put them in the hotglue, wich we improved. Left some more tools printing.
The jumsuit's prototype was finished, and with the fabric and mold we can now pass to the final execution.
monday, 13 january
We picked up the tools that got left printing the day before. Left some more printing.
Went to the market to buy fabric and threads.
Went to Bart's class to receive feedback on the texts - we need to make them shorter and more effective.
Went to the 3D print werkplaats to print some damaged tools and worked on improving the texts and the audioguide.

tuesday, 14 january
Again, we picked up the tools that got left printing the day before.
Sketches for the exhibition table, speculation of costs and other alternatives.
Experiments with audio, trying to choose the best way to record it.
We also painted the tools to look better.
wednesday, 15 january
thursday, 16 january
We reprinted some of the tools with a transparent material and made an appointment in the wood workplace to build our light-table and the frame for the exhibition. For that we made a more detailed scheme of the measurments. Furthermore we recorded the texts that you will hear on the audio guide.
